SNOWING

Just listen to this rough mix. These guys have been pulling my leg for months, but this demo is getting me so pumped. Definitely what I was hoping for from a boy problems/street smart production.
They are supposedly putting up demo's this week, which is pretty rad if you ask me.

Scroll down a little bit, you won't be dissapointed. I can't wait for the final mix, it'll be good.
Check in on their MYSPACE later this week.

Rainbow Tornado

^Formerly known as Oh My God Elephant, as well as Toy Boats
Also, they are no longer playing shows, at least for quite some time.

This blog will more or less be an album or band review, with the occasional upload here and there for the impossible to find, and/or music that is already up for free download by the bands or labels themselves.

Time for the good stuff. I first heard about this band in April of 2007. Back then, they were still playing under the name Oh My God Elephant. Conveniently this was right around the time that their label Goodnow Music re-released their apparently out of print
self-titled EP. I figured I'd give them a listen, and I was amazed at the musicianship of this band. It'd really be hard for me to even think about throwing this CD into just one single genre. The presence of that midwest 90's emo is very present. The kind of ringy guitar sound you'd find in some Polyvinyl acts. The vocalist is what for me makes this band different from similar bands. Let's say you fused the vocal chords of Travis of Piebald, with mewithoutYou's Aaron Weiss' shaky emotional voice, with perhaps just a touch of the intense energy Tim Kinsella in his Cap'n days.
The guitars are enveloping and clever, and they will draw you in. I've had this album for about two years now, and even with the not so impressive recording job, I have not once thought to myself, "I am tired of these 5 songs."

In 2008 the newly named Rainbow Tornado members put out their full length titled
Fancy Cookies. The recordings sound more pristine this time around. The sound is subtly different on this album. They have more gang chants, and the album seems to give of a brighter presence. All 11 tracks have a vastly different feel to them, but the band does not lose any fluency throughout. It's very easy to just sit down and listen through the whole album, and I think that's a pretty important quality to have in a CD.
I definitely recommend checking them out.
